Inn on the Lake Review: A Peaceful Lakeside Escape in Kent

We recently stayed at the Inn on the Lake in Kent for the night. While I have to agree with some of the online reviews that the hotel itself is looking a little dated in places, I honestly have to say that we had an amazing, relaxing stay and I would happily return.
What We Loved: The Stunning Lakeside Location.

What we genuinely loved most about our stay was the location. We paid a little extra for a room with patio doors, and this made such a difference to our experience. Being able to open the doors and sit outside overlooking the lake was absolutely lovely.

What we genuinely loved most about our stay was the location. We paid a little extra for a room with patio doors, and this made such a difference to our experience. Being able to open the doors and sit outside overlooking the lake was absolutely lovely.

There is something so peaceful about sitting outside with a cold drink, taking in the views and simply enjoying the surroundings. It felt like we were miles away from everything.
The location really is beautiful. You wouldn't actually believe you were in Kent when you're sitting there looking out over the lake and surrounding scenery. It feels incredibly scenic, tranquil and peaceful, which was exactly what we were looking for.

Although the hotel was reasonably busy whilst we were there, it never felt overcrowded or uncomfortable. There was still plenty of space to sit and enjoy the surroundings without feeling like you were surrounded by people.

Unwinding and Exploring
The weather was lovely and warm during our stay, which made the experience even better. We spent time sitting by the lake with a cold drink, just relaxing and watching the world go by. It was honestly so restful and was exactly the kind of break we needed.
Sometimes you don't need to be constantly doing something when you're away,  just having somewhere beautiful and peaceful to sit and unwind can make all the difference.

We also really enjoyed having the on-site bar. It was great not having to leave the hotel whenever we fancied a drink, and it added to the relaxed feel of the stay. We even stopped for lunch and had a toasted cheese sandwich, which genuinely has to be one of the best toasted cheese sandwiches I've had in a while! It was simple, but absolutely hit the spot, especially before our afternoon of exploring.

When we did venture out as well and headed to Cardiac Hill to tackle the stairs and explore the area, we enjoyed getting out exploring and taking in more of the scenery. After all that exercise, it was even nicer coming back to the hotel and being able to sit by the lake and relax.

Experience Over Modern Décor
I think sometimes it's easy to focus purely on whether a hotel looks modern or whether the décor is up to date, but for us, the overall experience was about much more than that. Yes, the hotel could probably benefit from some updating and modernisation, and I can understand some of the comments made in other reviews. However, personally, the slightly dated décor really wasn't a problem for us and it didn't take away from our stay at all.

In fact, I think that's important to say because, for us, the things that mattered most weren't whether everything looked stylish and modern. It was the peaceful setting, the beautiful lake views, having our own patio area, the warm weather, the on-site bar and, most importantly, having somewhere where we could simply slow down and relax.
We came away feeling rested, and that's ultimately what we wanted from our

Would I Stay Again?
Absolutely. If you're looking for a modern, luxury hotel with ultra-modern rooms and contemporary décor, this may not be the place for you. But if you want somewhere scenic and peaceful where you can sit by the lake with a drink, enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and escape from the hustle and bustle for a while, then I think the Inn on the Lake is definitely worth considering.
The fact that some areas are a little dated didn't bother me at all, and I'd actually love to stay there again.
